Pierluigi and I decided to drive around Castelli Romani, a group of hills southeast of Rome . It's known for its white wines (malvasia and trebbiano grapes). But it's also know for the presence of CERN thus many scientific related events.

We had lunch at Hotel Cacciani and were told by the waiter that a movie with Robert DeNiro was being filmed at Villa Aldobrandi and that the Hotel was catering some of the food. Who knows what they ate. But we had pasta, of course, and Pierluigi and some great ravioli stuffed with an eggplant puree'.

foto: Frascati parking lot with Villa Aldobrandi in the background.

The first record of the Villa Aldobrandini date back to the 16th century when the villa was purchased by the Aldobrandini family. Prior to this it had been owned by a succession of minor Roman and provincial noblemen. At the end of the 18th century it passed into the hands of the Borghese family, who had in the meantime also inherited all the Aldobrandini possessions. ---

A figure in the attitude of prayer is called an Orant in icon painting. In this ancient Eastern position, the figure either stands with arms outstretched sideways or bent at the elbow with palms facing forward. In early Christianity martyrs and deaconesses were represented in this attitude, which they assumed for certain prayers. The name of Oranta was then conferred on representations of the Virgin in this prayer position.

Pierluigi and I went to see the Dada & Surrealismo Show here in Rome but no sign of Elsa Schiaparelli who was from Rome.....

elsa schiaparelli website

Palazzo Corsini Roma

Elsa Schiaparelli, the flamboyant fashion designer of the Art Deco period, is renowned for her fabulous eccentricity and innovation. She changed fashion and people's attitudes to it with her scandalous dresses and colourful personality. Her legacy of spectacular designs and an entirely innovative approach to fashion design has moulded contemporary fashion and inspired countless fashion designers, including Galliano, McQueen, Gaultier and Yves Saint Laurent. In short, Elsa Schiaparelli was the woman who shaped fashion as we know it today - creating the pattern for all dresses to come.

Elsa Schiaparelli was an Italian who began her career as a designer in 1930s Paris. While Coco Chanel and Madeline Vionnet designed easy, soft clothes, Elsa Schiaparelli designed unusual, almost shocking garments.
She invented shocking pink and introduced mad prints, buttons and accessories. She was the designer for hard chic, those who want to be shocking. Elsa introduced the upturned shoe hat which became very famous.
Elsa Schiaparelli was the first one to do the boutique look in a store when she started selling her sweaters and accessories in the corner of the her salon. This idea was copied after World War II, and the boutique was born.
World War II marked the end of her business. She retired and never returned to fashion. She died in 1973 at the age of 83.

Elsa Schiaparelli----

Elsa Schiaparelli was the leading Parisian fashion designer of the 1920s and 30s after Coco Chanel. Elsa Schiaparelli was born in Rome on September 10, 1890, of Italian and Egyptian heritage. She was great-niece of Giovanni Schiaparelli, who discovered the canals of Mars.

MOTHER OF INVENTION.( articles)

As Time said of her in 1934, despite putting her on their cover, “ Though her fame continues to spread, one thing keeps Schiaparelli, now in her middle thirties, from becoming the very smartest of the Paris dressmakers. Her designs are too easy to copy. The mutton sleeves and tray shoulders which she sponsored last year were instantly popular on the Champs-Elysees and Manhattan's Park Avenue. But it was not long before every little dress factory in Manhattan had copied them and from New York's 3rd Avenue to San Francisco's Howard Street millions of shop girls who had never heard of Schiaparelli were proudly wearing her models.” This meant that while Chanel continued in the fashion buisness, Schiaparelli had to shut shop despite being more creative and innovative. She had given the world such radically new fashion objects that would one day become common like ensemble outfits, backless swimsuits, built-in bras, shoulder pads, wedgie shoes and waterproof cottons to name but a few, but her legacy could live on only in the work of others. She went into retirement in December 1954 and then wrote her autobiography, “Shocking Life.”

The Elsa Schiaparelli Skeleton Dress----

The Surrealist Who Dressed People Coco Chanel did not have many challengers, but she did have one serious rival, and that was Elsa Schiaparelli. Schiaparelli was known as '˜Schiap' to her friends......

Man Ray foto-----

Between the World Wars Schiaparelli was fashion’s darling, rivalling Chanel in the popularity stakes and helping to change the face of fashion. Not only did she sow the seeds of modern collections, placing the emphasis on creativity rather than traditional construction, she helped to inject a sense of fun and playfulness into an industry that took itself very seriously.

global climate wake-up

Dear friends,
The global wake-up is here – make a phone-call now to the government number in this email, find an event near you if there’s time, or just share images and experiences of this amazing day with others on our hub page:
Scroll down to find your government’s phone number, or check out the Global Wake-Up Call live online

AVAAZ

The global climate wake-up call is here! Now all of us can get involved from home -- by making a phone-call to our own governments, or following this extraordinary day of action as it unfolds around the world -- plus, there’s still time to join a local event near you!The press is reporting that global climate talks are in a shambles and the UN summit on Tuesday is the only hope to revive them. This Monday, we’re flooding media and government office phone lines worldwide with a wake up call for leaders to act -- with phone calls being made from over 2000 rallies, marches, meetings and "flashmobs" in public places across the planet, and by hundreds of thousands of us from home. We've sourced government phone numbers for your country, with suggestions about what to say. You find all the information you need about the great Global Wake-Up Call events and phone-calls on the hub page at the link below, including photos, video and a liveblog for us to share our experiences of the day -- make a phone-call from home or work and tell us how it went at this link, or find an event near you to attend:http://www.avaaz.org/en/sept21_hub/Here are the numbers to call in your country (Please start calling after 12.18pm Monday local time):
Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri Silvio Berlusconi(+39) 066 77 91

Ministero dell´Ambiente, Tutela del Territorio e del Mare Stefania Prestigiacomo(+39) 06 57 22 1 (+39) 06 57 22 56 08 (+39) 06 57 22 56 03 (+39) 06 57 22 55 80 (+39) 06 57 22 55 81 (+39) 06 57 22 55 85 (+39) 06 57 22 55 21

Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico Claudio Scajola(+39) 0667791

If you don't see any phone numbers here, or want to find different contact information, click on the link above.Make at least one call, and if you don’t get through, it’s probably because we’re jamming the phone-lines and it’s working -- so just keep trying throughout the day, or switch to another number!

We suggest you say you’re calling as part of an international action called the Global Wake-Up call, asking leaders to commit to go to the Copenhagen climate meeting in December and agree on a global climate deal that is FAIR, AMBITIOUS and BINDING (“FAB”), and ask them to register your call and convey the message to the decision-maker.Once you’ve made your call, visit the Wake-Up Hub at this link and post a short update on how it went in the live-blog on the [right] of the page -- you can also check out other people’s experiences there, and see photos and video from the wake-up call events as they are posted:

If you’d like to join a wake-up call event or flashmob in a public place near you, there may still be time -- click the link above and then click on the global map to find events wherever we are.
In recent weeks, we've stunned national governments, heads of state and political parties with sudden barrages of thousands of calls. These phonecalls tie up staff and shut down phone lines -- but they are never missed, and time after time, we're finding, they work. 14,000 calls reversed the Brazilian President's position on a new climate protection law, 3,000 calls persuaded the German Chancellor's party to engage with climate groups, just a few hundred calls got the attention of top advisors to French President Sarkozy. We have just 78 days left until the final UN meeting in Copenhagen, where we'll succeed or fail to get an historic global treaty to place binding global limits on carbon pollution, stop a climate catastrophe and unleash a new clean and green economy. Our leaders are nowhere near success, they're not even planning on going to Copenhagen. Let's send them a wake up call they won't forget. Use your phone now, and let’s share our worldwide experiences of this day on the hub page:http://www.avaaz.org/en/sept21_hub/With hope and determination,Brett, Paul, Iain, Graziela, Ricken, Alice, Ben, Paula, Pascal, Luis, Benji, and the rest of the Avaaz team PS - an amazing diversity of wake up call events are happening on Monday, from a drumming circle in Guatemala to a coastal ceremony in French Polynesia to a march in Kinshasa. But one exciting global event is the premiere of the new climate change film The Age of Stupid. Images and videos from the Global Wake-Up Call events will be combined, in a matter of hours, into a short movie to be shown in 700 satellite-linked cinemas at the Age of Stupid's global premiere. The screenings are one night only, September 21 in the US and Sept 22 in over 40 other countries. You can find screenings near you along with all our global wake up call events. Macro announces the first two special installations for its challenging spaces: Francesco Simeti's Pastiche, and Cuoghi Corsello's Exquisite Corpses. These works, explicitly commissioned by MACRO, are meant to give a new skin to the museum's re-awakening body.

On July 15 the new Director of MACRO, Luca Massimo Barbero, introduced the beginning of a series of special projects, which will occupy the Museum's previously neglected and forgotten spaces. MACRO is inviting young Italian and International artists to produce original works in order to transform the conformation, the atmosphere, and the visual aspect of the museum.

The series starts with the installations of Francesco Simeti for the halls' curve walls, and of the duo Cuoghi Corsello for the walls behind the glass elevators.
