The Power of Thecla and Her Story
In the Early Church
Without a doubt, Thecla and Paul were key symbols for the ideals of early Christian ascetic movements, especially in Egypt, Syria, and Armenia. Obviously the women's ascetic movement did not end, even though the Pastoral Epistles declared women's salvation was bearing children. Christian ascetic practices by both men and women continue to this day.
The power of Thecla's story spread throughout early Christianity. Following are just a few illustrations. Several early church fathers from both the East and West praised Thecla as a model of feminine chastity. She became "venerated from the shores of the Caspian almost to the shores of the Atlantic. In the fourth century a church in Antioch of Syria was dedicated to Thecla. Another church in Eschamiadzin, Iberia, from the fifth century has a wall design showing Paul preaching to her. In Egypt [are several examples of art]. In Rome, scholars found a sarcophagus graced by a relief portraying Paul and Thecla traveling together in a boat."4 At least three places claim her burial place: Meryemlik [Ayatekla], Turkey; Maalula, Syria; and Rome, Italy.

CONTEMPORANEAMONTI: quattro fortunati appuntamenti già realizzati con migliaia di visitatori, un progetto che nasce proprio qui, nel Rione dove l’arte e lo shopping tradizionale e di qualità sono una realtà molto viva.

Con la quinta edizione la rete degli spazi espositivi di Contemporaneamonti aumenta. 37 location: la manifestazione propone un itinerario ancor più articolato fra le strade del quartiere, fra moda, arte e design. Tra le location che hanno aderito, una d'eccezione: "Open Colonna", Ristorante+Bar, nuovo segno architettonico del Palazzo delle Esposizioni.

DEGRADO ESQUILINO blog

L'Occhio del Riciclone nasce agli inizi del 2003 con una riunione tra tra rigattieri abusivi, svuotacantine, baraccati, occupanti di case e artisti che riutilizzano gli scarti. Il tema dell'incontro era provocatorio: risolvere l'emergenza rifiuti a Roma partendo dall'esperienza di chi recupera quotidianamente e in modo spontaneo gli scarti per soddisfare le proprie esigenze. Alla riunione è seguita una consulta, alla quale hanno partecipato un centinaio di “recuperatori dal basso” e dalla quale è nata una proposta seria: introdurre il riuso nella gestione dei rifiuti sfruttando la capacità del settore dell'usato di assorbire gli scarti in buone o medie condizioni.
All'inizio del 2004 l'Occhio del Riciclone si costituisce in Associazione Culturale e divide la sua attività di promozione del riuso in due settori:
1)Lo studio e la progettazione
2)La comunicazione

Salernitana, 33 anni, Mara Carfagna da responsabile del movimento delle donne di Forza Italia sara' il ministro delle Pari Opportunita' del Berlusconi IV. Nel 2006 ha condotto il programma 'Piazza grande' insieme a Giancarlo Magalli Inoltre, ha fatto parte del cast di programmi televisivi come 'I Cervelloni', 'Vota la Voce' e 'Domenica In'. Nel 2007, ha partecipato con un cameo alla fortunata serie tv italiana 'Boris' impersonando il ruolo della cuoca Matilde, lavoro da lei realmente svolto in passato.

Il saluto romano, così detto perché si ritiene fosse stato in auge in epoca romana, è una forma di saluto utilizzata nel periodo fascista, che prevede il braccio destro teso in avanti-alto con la mano tesa aperta leggermente inclinata in alto rispetto all'intero braccio. La cinematografia e la tradizionale iconografia hanno diffuso altri tipi di gesti di saluto: il saluto detto legionario che consiste nel battere virilmente il pugno o la mano destra tesa sul petto (usato in parte ancora oggi in certe forme di "presentat'arm" militare), ed il saluto detto gladiatorio, consistente nell'affiancare l'avambraccio destro di chi saluta a quello di chi si vuol salutare e scambiarsi una reciproca stretta al di sopra del polso. Quest'ultimo è tutt'ora usanza diffusa in molti ambienti di estrema destra.

La GARD Galleria Arte Roma Design unica realtà romana, situata nell’ex zona del porto fluviale tra il Gazometro e la Piramide Cestia, rivolta alla promozione e divulgazione di opere realizzate da artisti emergenti e design auto-prodotto, realizzato con una particolare attenzione all’eco-compatibile e all’ecologia, riattesta anche quest’anno il suo impegno per quanto concerne le tematiche ambientali con un ciclo di esposizioni di design dal titolo “Eco ri-uso”, e di arte dal titolo “La materia ri-nata”. Entrambe le mostre evidenziano come l’arte e il design siano capaci di ridare dignità a quei materiali che spesso vengono scartati.Una ricerca che vuole debilitare i sensi e portare il fruitore a porsi delle domande, eventi rivolti alla creatività, all’inventiva e al rispetto dell’ambiente, dove si presentano opere esclusivamente realizzate con materiale di recupero.Altro scopo della galleria è offrire visibilità ai soggetti che più stentano a portare a conoscenza del pubblico il loro lavoro intellettuale; tra questi ci sono i giovani artisti il cui lavoro incentrandosi, su teorie di ricerca ed avanguardia, viene spesso isolato dal contesto generale e reso quasi del tutto invisibile al grande pubblicoInoltre si terranno dei laboratori completamente gratuiti per il pubblico uno ad ogni evento per promuovere attività liberatorie che danno spazio all'esercizio della manualità e alla capacità espressiva non verbale, che se costantemente praticato avrà ricadute importanti nella vita di tutti i giorni. Acquisire abilità manuali e la conoscenza di tecniche diverse, attraverso la sperimentazione personale dei materiali. Sensibilizzare alla tematica ambientale e alla pratica del riciclo.

Why is the most successful contemporary art dealer in the world opening a branch in Rome this month?
"Rome is a sleeping giant,” says Larry Gagosian, and on 15 December the art world’s most successful contemporary art dealer will attempt to bring it to life by opening a new gallery in the heart of city. The 700 square-metre space is in an ornate 1920s palazzo just round the corner from the Spanish steps. Its elaborate exterior houses a high-tech minimalist exhibition space designed by London architect Adam Caruso with the Roman Firouz Galdo. The inaugural exhibition is of paintings and sculptures by Cy Twombly, and the artist, who has a studio in the city, is rumoured to be cutting the opening ribbon (Gagosian Gallery in New York is also hosting a Cy Twombly show, until 22 December).

The Donation of Constantine tells the story of Constantine‘s conversion to Christianity. According to this document, Constantine had contracted leprosy and was advised by his pagan priests to bathe in children’s blood in order to be healed. Constantine didn‘t have the heart to follow through and later that night in a dream Saints Peter and Paul appeared to him. They directed him to Pope Sylvester I who would heal him and then he was to restore the Christian churches and worship the true God. Constantine did as he was instructed, was healed, was baptized , and in thanks he gave as a "deed" the document known as the Donation. Allarme da una ricerca del Cnr"Nell'aria di Roma c'è cocaina"" ..... Nell'atmosfera di Roma c'è della cocaina in sospensione: non si tratta dell'ennesima leggenda metropolitana, ma di un serissimo allarme lanciato dal Consiglio nazionale delle ricerche. Ad appestare l'aria della capitale non ci sono dunque solo i gas elle auto e delle industrie, ma anche le droghe. Lo rivela uno studio condotto proprio dal Cnr, presentato oggi: il primo di questo tipo realizzato al mondo. La ricerca si inquadra in una valutazione più ampia dei composti tossici presenti nelle polveri sottili che inquinano l'amosfera ed è stata condotta in due aree urbane italiane, Roma e Taranto, e ad Algeri. I risultati hanno evidenziato, oltre alla presenza di cocaina e di sostanze tossiche conosciute come il benzopirene (un idrocarburo cancerogeno presente nel fumo di sigaretta e negli scarichi degli autoveicoli), quella di cannabinolo (il principale componente attivo della marijuana), hashish e altre droghe, anche se meno dannose, come nicotina e caffeina.
