pastificio cerere......Founded in 1905 the Pastificio Cerere building is born as a bakery industry but after its shutting down in the sixties, the building has been abandoned until a group of artist decided to live and work there. It became famous in the seventies because it can be compared as a sort of roman SOHO. Pastificio Cerere is becoming in those last years a milestone in contemporary art thanks to the artists belonging to the school called “Scuola Romana di San Lorenzo” or “Gruppo di San Lorenzo” and on the other side with a new wave of young artists who reside and work in the building. The scope of the foundation is to combine those two realities and to sustain the art evolution.

Adriano Olivetti was born in Ivrea on 11 April 1901. His engineer father, Camillo, an eclectic and original thinker, founded "Italy's first typewriter factory" in Ivrea in 1908. During his formative years, Adriano developed a keen interest in social and political debate, moving in liberal reformist circles and writing for the reviews "L'azione riformista" and "Tempi nuovi". Piero Gobetti and Carlo Rosselli were important influences. After graduating in industrial chemistry at the Politecnico di Torino, in 1924 Adriano began an apprenticeship as a factory worker in the family business. The following year, accompanied by Domenico Burzio, he toured the USA, visiting dozens of factories. On his return, he drew up a wide-ranging programme of innovative projects to modernise operations at Olivetti: a decentralised staff organisation, function-based management, rationalisation of assembly work, development of the Italian and overseas sales network, etc. He subsequently launched work on a project for the first portable typewriter, which was launched in 1932 as the MP1.
The Adriano Olivetti Foundation, set up in 1962, has the purpose of "supervising the continuance of the work of study and experiment, theoretical and practical, set in motion by Adriano Olivetti". From this perspective of social commitment, the Foundation has carried on an intense programme of scholarly research and cultural promotion, divided into four fields of activity all informed by an interdisciplinary approach: Institutions and Society, Economy and Society, Community and Society, Art, Architecture and Planning.
The Foundation engages in publishing, both in collaboration with important publishing houses and on its own behalf with the series "Quaderni della Fondazione". In 2003, in collaboration with Luca Sossella Editore, the Collana Comunità series was born, a further instrument for theoretical and practical reflection, stimulated by research and experimental programs on community life issues realized by the Foundation.
The purpose of the Fondazione is to promote, develop and coordinate - in the territory of the Canavese and elsewhere - initiatives and cultural activities designed to achieve the well-being, education, qualification and maturation of citizens through the progressive diffusion, in harmony with the principles of the Constitution of the Republic of Italy, of forms of community life which correspond to the urban, productive and social fabric of the commonweal, in accordance with the ideals of Adriano Olivetti.
Transiteurope is a platform for the development of the project and a starting point for the creation of a European network of exchange (between artistic and cultural institutions, artists, interdisciplinary groups, researchers, curators and public administrations that deal, in different ways, with public space). The site is conceived as an observatory, because its aim is to promote the most innovative artistic and cultural projects for public space realised in various European regions, and as a laboratory, a forum for the discussion of the cultural theories and policies that the projects represent or call into question.
